Doddie Aid
Client: My Name’5 Doddie Foundation
Role: UX, UI
My Name’5 Doddie Foundation is a charity formed to increase funding for research into a condition which still has no effective cure or treatment. Founded by Doddie Weir OBE, a former rugby player who himself was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease (MND).
The charity has seen massive success year-on-year since its conception in 2017, especially with its annual “Doddie Aid” fundraising campaign. This brings both members of the public and sports personalities together each year to get active and raise awareness for the charity’s important cause.
The first year of the campaign saw great success and the team were keen to take learnings from it and push it to the next level in terms of fund-raising, awareness and engagement.
The solution
We needed a digital solution that would allow potential donors and existing supporters alike to get inspired, get involved and donate to the cause. Our answer - the Doddie Aid app. The app became the key tool in facilitating the exercise challenge, making registering, tracking, donating and competing in the event easier than ever before.
We worked in sprints closely with My Name’5 Doddie to fully scope the charity and product goals to ensure they fully aligned and achievable within a very short timeline.
How it works in a nutshell
Participants join one of the celebrity-led districts, to battle for the highest total group mileage to win the Doddie Aid challenge. To take part, users register to join through the Doddie Aid app, make a donation and claim their ‘district' team snood. Miles are then logged on the go, either manually or using live tracking features.
Success
The Doddie Aid app was a huge success for My Name’5 Doddie. With over 17,000 active users on the app, together we raised £900,000 and logged over 2 million miles from the brilliant community who got up and about around Scotland and the UK in aid of the foundation.
With the reach of the app boosted by famous Scots including Ewan McGregor, Gerard Butler and Lorraine Kelly - not to mention news appearances by Doddie Weir himself on BBC Breakfast and other broadcast news outlets - the app was a huge success.
